Wow! There's so many!  REDS (movie) and ALICE IN WONDERLAND (book).   Jesus Christ Superstar (movie)  and The Bible (book).
Yes,it's true there is so many, but that's what make it so interesting,by sharing we can try some new books and films.Books: "A thousand splendid suns",(every woman must read this book, unforgettable)"The Kite runner"-Khaled Hosseini. "The memory keepers daughter"-Kim Edwards,All Judy Picoult's books,Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta series, "The Surgeon","The apprentice" ,"Under the knife" by Tess Gerritsen,I just love all of her books.Movies: "The Pianist","Forrest Gump","The way we were","Shall we dance","Shaw shank redemption","An unfinished life",(I love Robert Redford, most handsome man ever!),"The Titanic","The sound of music",there's still so many!

Hanneke, I also love the books of Paricia Cornwell and Tess Gerritsen, I've read them all! I also like: Henning Mankell (a swedish writer), Karin slaughter & John Grisham! A very good book is: "The secret history"from Donna Tart.

My favorite movie: Scent of a woman with Al Pacino...but also many others, like "The green mile", "Walk the line"(Johnny Cash)...

Yes Rita, how could I forget about "Scent of a woman",The green mile" is also a favorite of mine"Into the Wild","The perfect murder","The horse Whisperer","Fried green tomatoes""Out of Africa","The Bridges of Madison County","The color purple","Love Story",I also love Harrison Ford's films. The "Bourne" films,"Driving Miss Daisy","Silence of the Lambs" and all the other Anthony Hopkins' films,"Million Dollar Baby",all Clint Eastwood's films, all Morgan Freeman's,"Kill Bill 1+2".Some 007 films, there's so many. I'll remember the books you recommended Rita.

Hey girl...fav books, Wuthering Heights, all of Jane Austen's books, A Farewell to Arms & Of Mice and Men...fav movies, Phantom of the Opera, Les Mis (BBC version), Chicago, Gladiator, Out of Africa...These are fun...but I have to add that I've seen Jazz Singer a zillion times...ha ...YUP!!!...Take care..Gloria

Movies: Fried Green Tomatoes. I love the way the two stories are woven together. Million Dollar Baby. I cried nonstop for the second part of the movie. Radio Flyer. A very early Elijah Wood movie about child abuse. He showed enormous talent from an young age. The Help. We all need reminders of what it was like then. It is easy to forget. Basically all movies that make you think. I do love watching most movies but I forget them quickly these are just some that stick in my mind and I can watch over again.

Books: The 3 part series that starts with A Boy Called It. A true story that broke my heart. Should be compulsory reading for every criminal who pleads "I had a bad life". When Rabbit Howls. Another hard book to read but an eye opener.Alex Cross' Trial. Again like the movie The Help a reminder of how it was. I guess its the hard ones to read that make the biggest impression are the ones I remember.

I don't know if these are the best but certainly some of my favorite books: A couple of books by Chuck Palahniuk: "Survivor" and "Choke"--very strange, weird and engaging novels. "Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman: About Einstein, who has dreams about time and the different ways it could manifest, while working on his theory of relativity. I loved this book and missed it when I had finished it--kind of like a friend leaving town. I really liked Stephen King's "Hearts In Atlantis." The classic "Beowulf" epic poem. The translation from the Old English by Seamus Heaney. Again, missed it when I was done. Also like his book of poetry: "Opened Ground," a collection of his poetry from '66 - '96 and I also like Mary Oliver's books of poetry "American Primitive" and "Dream Work," both wonderful. She writes mostly of nature and her observances during frequent walks in New England. Oh, and another poet, Gerald Stern and his collection "This Time." My first foray into writing poetry was motivated by one of his poems. Sigh...think I'll go read a poem now. The movies will have to wait. Hugs, MM

Hi Maggie and everybody else,I must have phrased it better, more like popular books and movies, and not best. Don't think my choices are the best either, there's so many and everyone's taste differs. I also love poetry, but am more familiar with local South-African poetry. I will keep everyone's choices in mind,it will make choosing books at the library so much easier next time!  I also love Stephen King, all suspense thrillers for that matter. Every time I read a book which played of in the New England surroundings,I can hardly believe how cold it can get there during winter time!

Rita,Patricia Cornwell and Tess Gerritsen are at the top of my list,I can hardly put one down, once Iv'e started! Luckily there's still quite a few from them out there which I haven't read!

What I meant by the best was the best to me--I'm no judge of the best of everything.  These were the first ones that came to my mind--probably because they are some of my favorites.  Happy Day!  Happy Reading!  MM
