March 1966, Solitary Man was a hit and we were lucky enough to get him to our hometown, St. Joe.,Mich. He played with only a drummer and keyboard with him...Cherry.Cherry wasn't released until Sept. of that year...
He was uncomfortable performing, yet but saying that, it was still a fantastic show...He looked just like the video on the home page now he was 25yr. When he was here.
He was bashful, kind and most generous with his time, in fact he sat out with us and watched the other band and we could talk in between sets...
He talked about touring, family and his music, little did we know just what he would become...in fact as good as he was , I don't think he even dreamed it....I hope you like my little recollection Rosa...it's been fun recounting it...u

Oh, what a wonderful memory!  Thanks for sharing!

Here I am, thanks Mary! I do like your recollection, it can be considered exceptional  for ways and times in which it held. You were right to put your memories in the discussion space to share them with everyone. From your story, even if short, Neil appears as the person  he has always been - helpful and humble as well as talented. Although I often joke  commenting on S.C. site, this episode, along with other I've read, completes the picture of a man I keep in my heart and admire so much.A big hug! xoxoxox

That is a beautiful story. You are lucky to have such fond memories of Neil on his younger days. Sweet!

Thank you so much for telling us about this. It's great getting to know Neil when he was younger and still learning the ropes. How wonderful for you to be able to sit and talk with him after his show--something that few people get to do these days. It's hard to know what will happen with people just starting out in show business, you can never tell just how high their star will rise. You hit the jack pot!  When I was very young I went to see a folk group sing. They were opening for someone I'd never heard of, he was a comic and hilarious...I had no idea at the time that years later we would all come to know and love him as that "wild and crazy guy"--Steve Martin! with that silly arrow on his head and banjo in hand. Didn't get to meet him though--rats!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it.....what would we have done differently? I wonder that alot.....

This is a lovely story, not only did you meet him, but again it shows us what a nice person Neil is.

I wish I could, Solitary Man was a hit already and that's the one we came to hear....He did 3 or 4 others as I remember. No one stands out in memory....I just remember liking his music and voice .....and of course he was pretty great....

Aah, Mary..lovely story. How lovely for you and I know it is a memory you treasure. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, foe sharing this wonderful story!! Not many of us have ever had that chance. Something you will never forget!
