Jewel Diamond commented on Diane Lewis Havenner's blog post A Close EncounterDuring Neil's sabbatical in the early '70s, and not long after seeing him at the Greek for HAN, I was working in Hollywood, and my office was very close to Ken Fritz Management, Neil's then manager. I decided to drive over there one day on my lunch hour in the hopes of a Neil sighting, because, like the rest of you, I was completely and hopelessly in love with the man (not to mention his music). The office was on a corner with windows just above street level. I parked and walked along below…

4evermore12 said… Back to you Diane,
Seem to have lost part of your message..."I DO MEAN drag)to set Neil ei... IS THERE ANOTHER PART TO THOSE WORDS?
....May have confused you with my lengthly 'musical memories'....I'm not an Engelbert fan ....but have enjoyed dancing/singing to some of their songs over the years.....
Does your hubby like any music? Mine likes lots even though he's 'a tad younger'....He saw his first Neil concert with me here last March - enjoyed it (even when I got a bit over enthusiastic as did my SIL too) and even taped a lot of it (not sure about the quality though)...
I figured he should have gotten a free ticket (but didn't) John is exactly 20 yr younger than Neil - but I didn't know that when we met or I'd have moved closer to him!

Hi Diane,
Wlecome to Sweet Caroline.
Been enjoying reading your posts...Mercy speaking of ol Engelbert...what
a moment in time that one must have been (if it happened now it would have
gone viral immediately all over the world eh). Was watching ol ol Love Boat on TV
the other day and he was on...priceless and sang too...Never seen him in concert.
Seen Neil about 7 or 8 times since 1969 (just him, a drummer, and great lady guitarist way back then). Wonderful you saw him at the Greek before HAN. I was in LA in 1980, 1981, 1983...visiting an old dear friend...I drove up to the Greek....they were preparing for some concert who knows what band...they let me wander in and around...I just stood there "hearing Neil sing".
.I sat by myself in 89 before I immigrated here to Australia with a scalped ticket to see The Rolling Stones (out of sight and mind that one was). Another interesting memory was about 1979 - Vancouver - scalped ticket - was on way to some Women's Spiritual Exhibition and concert was next to that building...so we ended up at concert with about $30 scalped tickets...Saw Diana Ross....Just went with the flow and that is where we ended up (beat the exhibition any day!)
..Neato you seeing Neil through the window of the office, etc. Shame you had to throw the autograph out...Hec I waiting for over an hour outside that big LA theatre where I saw The King and I in 1981 for Yul Brynner and his wife who was one of the dancers perform. Marvelous...Found out from security & his limo driver what door they'd come out of where to stand but don't go up to him,etc...I followed the instructions and he said "thank you for everything" & he smiled and nodded very graciously with his beautiful wife beside him... I did write to him and like you got an autographed pic which I treasured......I'd seen the King & I live years before and also the movie many a time....But to see him perform it was precious never mind being 'that close to him'.....
Must stop and get to the beach for my swim/walk with our dog Banjo (my personal trainer).
Are you going to see Neil in LA...this summer?
Enjoy rest of February and Happy Valentines Day too from Australia.
Lynne

Alyce V said… So Diane, you're not alone as a Neil Diamond fan anymore, you have 3,211 other totally adoring fans to chat with. So make as many friends as you can, they will be happy to add you as a friend....Have fun checking out all the videos and photos and blogs and don't forget to write a blog about your experiences, other members would love to know about your experiences as well.
As far as I know, Neil will be in San Jose, CA Aug 7 th, and you don't think that there are going to be other dates added in Calif.??? He has got to do the Greek Theater-no way he wouldn't do that--that's his beginning. Have faith - he's saving the best for last believe me. His home state is so important to him - there will be lots added for that.
Alyce V said… How lucky are you to get to see that very first ever so iconic Concert-the one unfortunately that no one thought of taping back then. At least you have seen it - we all wish we had been there......enjoy being part of our site ....Welcome aboard the Neil Diamond Express which I'm sure you will see him again in the summer......Best Regards Alyce V
