Suzanne Stroop A Prayer for Neil---As He Begins Once More, A Tour To Sing For Us

Thank you Lord for this man.

Let him live long. Let him be strong.

We’ve given our love to him.

He has given his to us.

Hold him in your hand. He is our music man.

Some say his music is his soul,

Some say it is his heart,

But I believe it is the voice of you.

Tender is his heart.

He tells us in so many, many ways.

Yet he is strong,

Because he lifts us up and carries us away.

He is…

Suzanne Stroop Neil's River

diamon

You have created a river through your music,

With all the memories of you, of what has come and gone,

Formed by the decades of your life and your guitar.

It's a river forming still,

Bubbling up from that magical spring that holds your soul,

Through all the notes and words you pen today.

And that river sings to us, as we walk along its shore.

It sings of love, of joy,

And of a sadness each of us will feel,…

Suzanne Stroop Funny, funny stuff

I am in the process of reading a book by David Wild HE IS…I SAY. In so many places I was almost in tears laughing at some of the analogies this man makes. He is so tongue and cheek about it…almost every sentence starts with “I’m a believer that…”. In the first chapter he talks about Elvis Costello seeing Neil when Neil stopped by in his tour bus at a small venue where Elvis was playing (he, Elvis, was just getting started). Elvis said something to the effect that Neil turned around with a…

Skybird14 More Thoughts On Making Graphics

There are times when I wish I could exchange the ability to make graphics for the ability to play a musical instrument, be good at dancing or sports or be able to creat works of art with the pen rather than a computer and then there are times when I love what I do.

This is not Neil Diamond related as such but it's relevant to this blog post so bear with me whilst I explain the huge joy that my 'artwork' has given me.

It was back in May 2011 and I was bored whilst waiting for a…

Suzanne Stroop Neil ...the hidden door

I heard it said that there's a hidden door somewhere, where time stands still in windows that march across a wall that span forever.  And if I ever found that door here's what I would do.

I'd walk the corridor until I found the year that I'd been looking for. I'd step upon the sill, then step again and find myself at the age of seven with all my memories of each tomorrow still intact, on a Brooklyn road with Neil's home just yards away. I'd sit down on the curb, beneath his bedroom…

Diane Lewis Havenner A Close Encounter

During Neil's sabbatical in the early '70s, and not long after seeing him at the Greek for HAN, I was working in Hollywood, and my office was very close to Ken Fritz Management, Neil's then manager. I decided to drive over there one day on my lunch hour in the hopes of a Neil sighting, because, like the rest of you, I was completely and hopelessly in love with the man (not to mention his music). The office was on a corner with windows just above street level. I parked and walked along below…

Suzanne Stroop NEIL AND THE CLOCK

Do you rememer when all the yesterdays were just tomorrows, yet to come?

When time was not a speeding train, with no way off,

But just a waiting game...always wondering what each tomorrow might bring?

We'd dance away the hours as the night wore on,

While your songs played through needles dull and worn from use.

We'd dream of you back then, but never understood how quickly

Time was passing by.  We were young and had so many thoughts of…

Suzanne Stroop Tomorrow is January 24....This Is A Birthday Wish For Our Guy Neil

January 24, 1941.  A boy child was born to Rose & Akeeba Diamond. They named him Neil Leslie. They had no idea that he would bring with him a special gift, the gift of song. Nor did they know that in the future, most of the world would be singing his songs with him in arenas and stages all over the globe. This is a birthday wish for him.

A birthday wish from all of us out here to you.

Years have past but you still mean as much to us,

As that time long past,…

Shilo Neil Diamond - Mary Byrne

When I came out of X-Factor, we did the tour which was a brilliant thing to do. I got to come to The O2 and everyone single one of us on that tour said that the best reception of any of the shows was at The O2 in Dublin. The Irish just don't get enough good shows like that and, when they do, they embrace it. It was like going home to your mother's bosom. Every time I came out on stage I got a standing ovation. We all did, but I seemed to get the biggest. That was because I am one of them and…

Suzanne Stroop What do ya'all think?

After reading Gloria's blog, I wanted to ask a question which is really bothering me.  I try to stay away from biographys, unless they are autobiographical, but I was at the library picking up a book I had on hold and found Neil Diamond Solitary Star  by Rich Wiseman.  After reading it I understand why I hate this type of book.  It really makes Neil look like a jerk. The guy brings up stuff that…

Gloria Why Neil Diamond's music will be his greatest legacy...an introspective.

Hi everyone. For those of you who don't know me well & for those that do, I want to express my thoughts and experiences with you. I am a professional musician (pianist) and arranger and have been performing all my life. But this is not what this commentary is about. I bring it up for one reason and that is to try and explain the "music in us" from a performer's point of view, specifically Neil Diamond.

Neil has been performing/composing/touring…

Suzanne Stroop Neil's 500 Miles

Five hundred miles of song and the thread of your heritage running through them all. You are wise, but you do not speak.  You let your music say it all.

You write in parables and allow the listener to enjoy the clear water that flows through the top layers, or to feast on the harvest of what lies below. You sing the Song Of Solomon, the Psalms are there and so is Job.  Your heart pens the words and your soul creates the notes.  You sing for the lonely and the downtrodden, for the…

Laura Favorite Quotes about Neil Diamond

Although I've been a Neil Diamond convert for not quite a year now, my now insatiable passion has led me to peruse countless articles, books, and liner notes about our favorite singer.     Some of the descriptions I've read about him during what I'm deeming my "Discovery Phase" have really resonated with me.

One of my favorite descriptions of his voice comes from the man himself.   In his own words:   "My voice is full of gravel, potholes, left turns and right turns, but it's…

Suzanne Stroop Thought I was done...

SORRY NEIL BUT THESE JUST KEEP POPPING UP:))

Thoughts of you, they sometimes fill me up inside.

All the yesterdays, when your music played

And I'd think of you, just you.

I've tried so hard not to remember,

To put you aside and to forget,

But as hard as I try, it just won't work for me.

I can almost taste your songs,

I can almost feel your voice, caressing me.

So long ago that dream began,

And it…

Suzanne Stroop Song of Solomon

Someone mentioned that Neil might have written Holly Holy with the Song of Solomon in mind.  I just read this several times and now I wonder if perhaps that person is correct in thinking that he took some of this and used it in the song in an alligorical(sp)way. The Jewish religion uses the Song of Solomon quite often.  It is also called the Song of Songs. From what I understand, Neil was going through a very spiritual stage in his life and was reading quite a bit when he wrote that song. In…
