Thank you Lord for this man.
Let him live long. Let him be strong.
We’ve given our love to him.
He has given his to us.
Hold him in your hand. He is our music man.
Some say his music is his soul,
Some say it is his heart,
But I believe it is the voice of you.
Tender is his heart.
He tells us in so many, many ways.
Yet he is strong,
Because he lifts us up and carries us away.
He is not a god, but we seek him out
And relish what he gives us.
He’s made the passage of our lives
Forever sweeter.
He’s put aside so much because of us.
Somehow he knew we needed him.
He’s traveled far - he's known for very long
That this would be his mission.
The words he pens reflect a man as deep as any ocean.
He writes what we can never say.
He began with just a dream and his guitar.
But he took the music that was born in him,
And made it come alive for everyone to hear.
He’s made the written word become a melody of love.
A melody of sadness. The musical melody of our life,
Created for our generation, and we will hand it down.
It touches each of us In some eternal way.
This is my prayer for him. Hold him close.
Keep him safe from any harm that comes his way.
Bless him for the words and music he had given us,
And for the love he has offered us along the way.

Comment by Alyce V on February 17, 2012 at 4:51pm Diane - you said it all, something deeper, primal-spiritual and lonely. And I always felt that he made me feel less lonely and on the other hand when I play his up-beat songs I am totally elated. Thank you for your analogy. It hit home.....Hugs...Alyce V
Comment by Diane Lewis Havenner on February 17, 2012 at 1:23pm Musicians come and go, but there is something about Neil Diamond's sensitivity and honesty that transcends time and touches something deeper inside us, something primal and spiritual and lonely. He makes us feel less lonely and we love him for that. Thank you for writing this Suzanne.

Comment by Jewel Diamond on February 12, 2012 at 6:01am Beautiful Suzanne and so true. I can only hope again that somehow Neil reads it, he would be very touched. Yes we cant help reflecting on the fact that he may not be touring for much longer. Altho it also helps to be realistic about this, this is why I have bought a ticket for LV!
He intends coming to the UK again, Cherry. He seems to come every 3 years, so he should be here in 2014
Comment by jae renee on February 11, 2012 at 4:32pm Thanks for this poem, Suzanne, Once again you have put into words what a lot of us are feeling about our Neil.
I cant imagine my life without Neil now, he must stay healthy and strong for this tough year ahead and I expect after that he will have a quieter time to recharge his batteries and write some more. I have not given up on seeing my hero again in concert in the future here in the UK.
Suzanne, you have such a gift for the written word. You have expressed your feelings and ours and how we all hope our guy, Neil, stays safe, healthy, happy and filled with song. Beautiful words for a beautiful man.
