I've tried to get her story out, but it's too small a story to be told. It's the story of a young girls first love, and of a singer with a soul that's made of silver and of gold. The story lasts for many decades of her life, with his music surrounding every moment she recalls. It's a story of a woman's yearning that can never be fulfilled.
It starts when she is just sixteen, a time when first loves always seem to blossom, and goes from there. It runs through hills and valleys, through love and hate, and to a time when she gives up and leaves it all to fate.
She knows that this attraction is a fairytale unmade, a story never to be sung. But somewhere deep inside it never seems to end. It's a revolving door with no exit and no remorse. It's a time of growing up and growing old, a time of yesterday and of today. A time of now and of tomorrow. He leaves his mark on everything she ever touches and every dream she's ever dreamt from that first day until this one.
It's a sadness deep inside that keeps her crying. It's a joy that lives within her every waking hour, until the sun goes down and the stars start spinning once again. She sees his face through all its many stages. From a man of thirty, with hair thats long and hangs below his shoulders, to hair thats short as it is now, and as it was in that far away beginning. His eyes and smile, they never change, as every decade marches past in pictures. And each time she tries to put away those pictures, they call to her like phantoms in the wind, bringing with them all the what if's and if only's that fill some void in her, but never have an answer. Every song he's ever sung brings happiness and sorrow, and a timeless love that never, ever dies.
And when the time has come and all is done, she'll take so many pieces of this with her, and hold them, like a child, in her cold arms. But in the end, those memories of him will warm her. Her chance to take his hand - to thank him, will come to pass in some far off plane of space and time, where everything from every time exists. All the tears that had been shed will finally be forgotten, because the dream she dreamed as just a girl, and that forever followed her, has been fulfilled at last.

Comment by Jewel Diamond on February 13, 2012 at 5:36pm This is so moving, and so sums up the complexity of our emotions, not only for Neil but for any unrequited love we ever had. He brings us happiness and joy, but also a deep sadness, as he also brings to the surface the awareness that we dont have him in our lives in person, only thru the media. And so the emptiness of unrequited love is emphasised. But as you say... there is such hope, when we make the transition from this place of space and time to where there is none, we can meet all those we ever loved without there being any barriers in the way.
I tried to describe what I know so many of us feel and have felt from that first time, whether it was long ago or just a short time. And I must believe that each of us will have our moment to say to him exactly what we have felt. God bless this man. He has given us so very, very much.
Oh my goodness, Suzanne, this time you really got to me and actually made me cry...I dont know if I can read that through again, not just yet anyway.. maybe its just todays mood, Im a bit melancholy, but this is beautiful..thank-you xx
