You have created a river through your music,
With all the memories of you, of what has come and gone,
Formed by the decades of your life and your guitar.
It's a river forming still,
Bubbling up from that magical spring that holds your soul,
Through all the notes and words you pen today.
And that river sings to us, as we walk along its shore.
It sings of love, of joy,
And of a sadness each of us will feel, somewhere along the way.
But most of all...it sings of you. It tells us of the man you really are.
It carries your essence, in pieces,
That we pick up as we wade in its warm water.
We wear them on our hearts and embed them in our souls.
Our love for you runs deep.
Flowers bloom along the edges, where the river water feeds them.
Roses with thorny stems and lilys with leaves as soft as velvet.
Reminding us that you are a man with wants and needs,
And faults that we refuse to see.
We follow in your footsteps,
Along the riverbank that is forever changing,
In hopes of finding you somewhere beside the river you have made.
And the few of us who do, hold that memory close, so it will never fade away.
The river flows with the beat of each chord you play,
Its current creating an echo between the past and present,
Surrounded by the music that was born in you.
You speak to each of us. You lift us up and carry us away.
And when that time has come,
And all of us are gone, your music will live on.
Someone new will find that river, still flowing with all its memories of you.
They will stop and listen, as the words you sang, sing once again for them.
And the river will remember how you sang for us,
Along the road of life, so many times before.

Comment by Rita on February 7, 2012 at 1:29pm In one word...FANTASTIC...Thank you Suzanne for these beautiful words!
Honest to God, these just seem to pop up..the first words are all of a sudden just there (usually they appear when I am lying in bed trying to go to sleep)and the rest just seem to flow out of me...the only work I do is reread and edit so it makes sense.
